Start by understanding the threat
A nuclear EMP, a severe geomagnetic storm and a cyberattack on utilities all end with the lights off, but they differ in warning time, geographic scale and what survives. That distinction decides everything downstream — a solar storm gives days of warning and mainly threatens long transmission lines, while an E1 pulse arrives in nanoseconds and goes after small electronics directly.

Protect the electronics you actually depend on
Shielding is not binary. It is a spectrum of attenuation, and the difference between a sealed enclosure and a "Faraday" bag with a bad seam is the difference between a working radio and a paperweight.
